EXPERIENCE Gregory T. Lawrence represents businesses and individuals in complex civil litigation and government investigations and prosecutions. Mr. Lawrence also advises clients on securities laws and conducts independent internal investigations on behalf of corporations and securities firms. Matters that Mr. Lawrence handles include the following:
Mr. Lawrence serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he teaches Securities Regulations. Prior to forming Conti Fenn & Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence spent six years representing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in high-profile investigations and litigation as Senior Counsel in the Enforcement Division. Most notably, Mr. Lawrence spearheaded the SEC’s landmark investigation of AOL Time Warner that resulted in a $300 million civil penalty—the second-largest penalty in history for financial reporting violations—which was subsequently distributed to aggrieved investors. The Los Angeles Times published a feature article about Mr. Lawrence in which defense lawyers in the AOL Time Warner matter described him as a “smart, fair and intensely methodical lawyer” who is “well organized.” Mr. Lawrence has substantial international law experience. On separate occasions, he represented the SEC in formal proceedings at the U.S. Embassy in London, England, the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, Germany, and the U.S. Consulate’s Office in Sydney, Australia. Before joining the SEC, Mr. Lawrence was an Associate at Saul Ewing LLP in the Securities Litigation and White Collar and Government Enforcement practice groups.
